SUMMARY
The persistence of scourges, such as dermatological pathologies of voluntary depigmentation in West Africa, is a public health problem in the world despite all the measures taken to ensure the quality of cosmetic products in countries. The aim of this study is to contribute to the improvement of cosmetic regulation in countries with weak regulation.
It was a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted through a review of the regulatory framework of nine countries/communities. The main objective is to describe the regulatory requirements for cosmetics in the countries. As variables, definition, classification, manufacturing, import, marketing, market surveillance, use and cosmetovigilance.
The study showed that regulations have existed in most countries for many years, some of which are community-based (Europe, USA, Nigeria and WAEMU). However, it should be noted that there is a diversity of requirements in the countries, a lack of availability of exposure risks and ingredient assessments in most countries, as well as an inadequacy of control and cosmetovigilance, which constitute major shortcomings for the safe use of cosmetics.
Regulatory shortcomings encourage the circulation of poor quality and counterfeit cosmetics with harmful consequences for the health of our populations.
