ABSTRACT
Formulation of microparticles by ionic gelation based on Landolphia owariensis (Apocynaceae) bark powder for the treatment of haemorrhoidal crisis.
INTRODUCTION
The general aim of this study was to develop suppositories containing Landolphia owariensis bark powder-based microparticles with controlled and prolonged rectal absorption in order to improve compliance with treatment for haemorrhoidal attacks.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
After extraction, the decoctate obtained was physicochemically characterised. The sodium alginate-based microparticles, formulated using the ionic gelation technique, were characterised macroscopically, microscopically and granulometrically. Release studies were carried out in a continuous flow cell to determine the encapsulation yield.
RESULTS
The microparticles obtained were round in shape. The encapsulation rate of the extract determined was 24.01%.
CONCLUSION
The results indicate that formula 3 of the microparticles proved to be the best. The release tests carried out showed the influence of the sodium alginate-based matrix system on PA release kinetics. These microparticles will make it possible to improve the treatment of haemorrhoidal crisis.
